How to Clean Your Stainless Steel Appliances
Stainless steel is notorious for not living up to its name, stainless.
Stainless Steel appliances make your kitchen space look sleek and modern, there's no doubt about that. In fact, one of the sure ways to increase the value of your home is to purchase matching a stainless steel fridge, stove and dishwasher. Maybe a wine fridge as well, why not! We love the look of stainless steel, keeping it clean and finger print free is a whole different story. Especially if you have little ones with 'who knows what' on their fingers.
That's what we're here for, to help you learn how to clean your stainless steel appliances! What's the point of having a wealth of knowledge and experience if we don't share it with our fans?
There are several methods and products that will work to clean your appliances, we are going to keep it simple and effective.
First things first, just like wood, stainless steel has a grain. When you are cleaning your appliances, MAKE SURE you are wiping in the same direction of the grain. Note: not all grains are created equal, find out which way yours runs.
There are two products that work just as well as an expensive and chemical heavy stainless steel cleaner. One is Windex, the second being Dish Soap. For te purposes of this blog, we are going to use a mild dish soap.
Dishsoap is a super hero of cleaners when it comes to fighting grime off dishes...and appliances! Go Figure? Using dish soap will clean excess oils off of the steel, and make polishing much more enjoyable!
- Apply a small amount to your cleaning rag, preferrably microfibre or cotton. Rinse with a small amount of water, just enough to make your rag damp
- Wipe along the grain line of your appliance. For extra stubborn fingerprints, you may need to go over the area a few times.
- When finished cleaning an area, make sure you dry any water marks and streaks with a dry towel. This will ensure a streak free surface.
Additional Care: Use Olive, Mineral or Baby Oil to protect your appiances from potential future fingerprints, smudge marks and scratches. We recommend applying your oil of choice to a cloth and wipe on the clean appliance to buff the surface! We used Olive Oil and it gave the fridge a nice, dark, clean finish. The extra 10 minutes spent was well worth it!
AND VOILA! YOUR STAINLESS STEEL IS STAINLESS ONCE MORE!
